TLC Welcomes 3 New Teens to Family...

This month, the TLC welcomes three new orphanage graduates from Mariupol School Orphanage #1 to its family.  Vadim, Fedya and Zhenya are all great young men and we are looking forward to having them live in the TLC for the new few years.

Here is a picture and brief profile of each of the boys...

Fedya Pichahchi

Age:                        15

Date of Birth:        17.12.1996

Town of Birth:      Village near Mariupol, Ukraine

Family History:

Came to the orphanage in 2010 after the death of his father.

His mom has been considered missing since 2007.

Fedya has a younger sister who is in the orphanage, too. They are very close.  He has an aunt who lives in Russia but comes to Mariupol in summer and spends time with him.

Interests:

Fedya likes sports and is considered to be a leader in his class.  Fedya is planning to study welding.

Character:

His weak point is being short-tempered sometimes.

Vadim Golokov

Age:                        15

Date of Birth:        11.03.1997

Town of Birth:      Village near Donetsk, Ukraine 

Family History:

Came to the orphanage in 2008.

His parents lost their parental rights in 2008.  Shortly after loosing her parental rights, his mother died. He has an older sister who lives in Western Ukraine and a grandmother who calls him from time to time.

Interests:

Vadim likes table tennis, soccer and participates in school shows.  He is planning to study welding.

Character:

He is a friendly and sociable person but loses his temper sometimes.

Zhenya Dolgov

Age:                        18

Date of Birth:        10.04.1994

Town of Birth:      Harzyzsk,  Ukraine

Family History:

Came to the Mariupol orphanage #1 in 2003

His mom died soon after she lost her parental rights and his dad is missing.  Zhenya has an older sister but she hasn’t visited him while he was in the orphanage. 

Interests:

He is fond of different kinds of sports, can draw well and play the drums.

Character:

His teachers characterize him as a boy without any problems in behavior.  Zhenya is shy and considers that to be his drawback.

He neither smokes nor drinks alcohol.

A NIGHT FOR THE CHILDREN OF UKRAINE - SEPTEMBER 20, 2012

Each year, Jeremiah's Hope hosts our annual fundraising dinner in Abilene, Texas.  We would like to invite you, if you are in the Abilene or West Texas area, to join us on Thursday, September 20th at 6:30 in the evening at the Hunter Welcome Center on the campus of Abilene Christian University.   This year our theme will focus around Job 29:12, "I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist them."  Jeremiah's Hope's ministry is about rescuing children who are orphaned and alone or who are living in family situations that put them at risk.  We invite you to come hear about how you can help us rescue more children! IN MEMORY: OLEG SHEFFER (June 30, 1991 - April 19, 2012)

On Thursday, April 19th, 2012, we received word that Oleg Sheffer had died.  Oleg was swimming in a lake outside of Mariupol when he drowned.  His older brother claimed his body and Oleg was burried last week in his hometown of Dzerzhinsk, Ukraine.   Oleg was born on June 30, 1991.  He has an older brother and an older sister.  He grew up in the orphanage in Dzerzhinsk, Ukraine.  In August of 2008, Oleg came to live at the transitional living center.  He studied at the trade school and graduated in 2010.  This was a tragic accident and we pray for Oleg's soul and for those who were his friends

March Prayer Needs...

Starting today, we are going to start posting monthly prayer needs for Jeremiah's Hope. We hope you will print these needs out, put them in your Bible or tape them to your fridge and remember to pray for these needs all month. Thanks in advance!

Prayer Needs for Transitional Living Center

• Pray for the teens as they complete the remainder of this semester of their studies. Pray that they will focus on learning the material and for those doing their internships in the factories.
• Pray for Misha (14 years old) who lives at the Mariupol orphanage and spends weekends and holidays living at the TLC. Pray that God would raise up a family willing to adopt this young man, who already loves you, and raise him in a Christian home.
• Pray for continued spiritual growth in the lives of those who are Christians in the TLC.

Prayer Needs for Sasha Project Kids

• Pray for our "Teen Girls Retreat" coming up the weekend of March 9-11. Two of our interns from ACU (last summer) are coming to Ukraine to do this retreat and share with these young ladies about how rich the Fathers love is for them and how He desires a relationship with them.
• Pray for Natasha (16) as she has made some poor decisions recently and is now pregnant. She also has lice. Pray for God to work in her life and that she will desire to carry this baby to term and for support as she makes decisions about where her life is going next.
• Pray for Olha and Kolya who have dropped out of school (9th grade and 8th grade) because of no parental support or involvement in their lives. They are discouraged and seem to be giving up. Pray that we can encourage them to return to school so that they have the skills to survive. Pray also, that this might be an opportunity to further share Jesus Christ with them!

Prayer Needs for the Camp

• Praises to God for Sergei and Sveta Borodulin, our co-workers here at the camp. Pray that God would continue to strengthen their new marriage (married in October) and that their ministry will continue to grow as they serve together.
• Pray for the completion of our new building. We are waiting for the snow to melt and temperatures to rise so we can complete the interior of the building. We hope to finish it by June 1st.
• Pray for this upcoming summer and all 7 of the camps we have planned. Pray for the teams (over 70 Americans, Australians and Dutchmen) who will be coming to serve as various times during the summer.

Kolentsi Church Plant

• Pray for the new church which is meeting here at the camp. There are about a dozen, from our village, who gather on Thursday evening and Sunday evening for study and worship.
• Pray for the evangelists from the Obolon Church of Christ, in Kiev, who are leading this church plant. Pray that God would speak through them and that they would BOLDLY proclaim the Gospel!
• Pray for our Evangelism Seminar which will take place from March 26-29 here at the camp.

General Prayer Needs

• Pray for the new Rescue Shelter, which we hope to open in the summer for at-risk youth.
• Pray for Gods continued provision of our ministry needs.
• Pray that God will continue to make himself known among the orphans and at-risk youth of Ukraine!

Kolentsi Church Continues to Meet...

With temperatures hovering around 3 degrees Fahrenheit and over 30 inches of snow, they come walking in the dark each Sunday evening for worship and a lesson from His Word. None of them Christian, but all are desperately seeking meaning and purpose to their lives here in our village, in this world and in this life. Each week, they come with questions, hoping to get answers.

For the past 6 months, the church plant in Kolentsi has gathered together weekly to worship and study. The evangelists from Obolon Church of Christ (Kiev, Ukraine) make the hour trek each week and our neighbors continue to come with a desire to learn more.

Tonight, twelve gathered in our lodge for worship. The weather is harsh and extreme, yet they come. A testimony to their dedication to learning more of God's amazing love for them. How many of you are dedicated enough to have trudged through 30 inches of snow and single digit temperatures to get to church? By foot, not by car. If those were our option, probably most of us would have stayed at home with a cup of coffee.

Day #8 - "The $20 Challenge" - Meet the Kids Who Would be Served by the Rescue Shelter...

Yesterday, we shared with you about the Rescue Shelter which will open on the camp property next spring. The Rescue Shelter is going to help us house children in crisis. This past summer, Andrew & Jenny Kelly served as "Foster Parents" for 8 children who were in emergency situations. With the help of others, these kids were cared for during the summer and then many were adopted out into Christian homes.

Day #7 - "The $20 Challenge" - Building a Rescue Shelter

Hundreds of children in the Ivankiv region of Ukraine suffer through lives of despair each day. For many, their lives are marked by abuse, abandonment and poverty. There is little that Social Services can do and with the recent closure of the government orphanage, there are no housing solutions other than leaving these children to continue living in this horrendous situations. The board of Jeremiah's Hope recently approved the use of the new cabin on the camp property to be used, year round, as a Rescue Shelter for up to 12 children at a time.

The Rescue Shelter will allow us to serve these children in an emergency, and often critical situation. However, we need your help to furnish the facility and make it "home."

Day #6 - "The $20 Challenge" - Transitional Living Center for Orphanage Graduates

In 2004, Jeremiah's Hope opened a transitional living center in Mariupol, Ukraine. Designed to help orphanage graduates as they transitioned from dependent orphanage life to independent living, the TLC has ministered to over 40 orphan teens. Many of those teens are Christians today!

Day #5 - "The $20 Challenge" - Kolentsi Village Church Plant

We are excited to announce that a small church plant began in the village of Kolentsi this past September. This is a joint initiative between Jeremiah's Hope, Ukraine Mission Work and the Obolon Church of Christ. Men from the Obolon Church of Christ spend a day or two each week in our village reaching out to our community. Receptivity has been awesome and we are averaging a dozen each time we gather for worship. Watch this short video to learn more...

Day #4 - "The $20 Challenge" - Abandoned Babies...

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40)

Four years ago, when we began out ministry in Ivankiv, Ukraine, we did not know what the Lord had in store for us. Within weeks of living in the area, we received a call from Social Services asking us to help them meet the needs of almost a dozen abandoned babies and toddlers at the local pediatric hospital. Since that time, Jeremiah's Hope has been a partner to the Ivankiv Hospital, providing many of the basic needs of the abandoned babies as they are brought into the hospital and kept until they are placed in an orphanage. Day #3 - "The $20 Challenge" - Pine Branch Christian Camp

Pine Branch Christian Camp is our newly built camp north of Kiev, Ukraine. The camp is fast becoming a ministry hub where we are able to host and minister to over 300 orphans and at-risk youth each summer. It is a place where we do retreats for children in our "Sasha Project" and is also where a new church plant is being started.

Your $20 donation helps us provide for these children while they are at camp. The majority of these children arrive with just a few old, dirty pieces of clothing in a plastic grocery bag. The camp provides clothing, shoes and hygiene supplies for each child. Pine Branch Christian Camp has become a place of refuge for many of these children. Will YOU help a child in need today?

Day #1 - The $20 Challenge - Orphanage Outreach

Jeremiah's Hope has been serving children in 3 orphanages for the past several years. Thanks to the support of our sponsors, we have been able to minister to children in orphanages in Ivankiv, Mariupol and Uglegorsk! To continue our ministry, we need YOUR help! It is a simple donation, but will we find 10 people each day (100 people in total) willing to donate $20 or more one time?

Misha Needs YOUR Support...

Misha Dermelyov was born June 9th, 1997 in Uglegorsk, Ukraine. Due to birth complications, he had surgery at just 10 days old to repair his stomach. Due to this, he is classified by the Ukrainian government as disabled (even though he is a very healthy, active, young man).

Nothing is known of Misha's father. His mother died 3 years ago from a heart attack. Misha had two older sisters born in 1985 and 1988. Misha lived with the oldest sister. In 2010 his sister died from a heart attack and the second sister died a couple of months later. Misha was sent to a shelter in Yenakiyevo.

It was here at this shelter where our ministry team first met Misha. Tanya, our administrator, was asked to pick him up and take him to the orphanage in August or September last year. Since then Misha has lived in the orphanage in Mariupol and has come to the church on Sunday with other orphanage kids.

He likes to play soccer, computer games and watch TV. He can embroider well.

Yana Needs YOUR Support...

Yana Senyak was born on October 31, 1995 in Mariupol, Ukraine. She lived most of her life with her mother as the identity of her father is unknown. In 2007, her mother died and an aunt took guardianship over her for two years but could no longer take care of Yana. in 2009, Yana went to the orphanage in Mariupol.

Yana is an average student. She likes sports, singing and dancing. She is enrolled in a trade school and will be studying to become a crane operator.
